Statement from the IFCG Dated August 6th, 2024

To our Muslim Friends and Refugees and those who support them across Brighton and Hove

As the Interfaith Contact Group of Brighton and Hove we strive to promote dialogue and understanding between different faiths and none. We are deeply saddened by the recent wave of violence against Muslims, refugees and asylum seekers.  We wish to express our solidarity with all those who have been adversely affected by these distressing events, and stand with you, shoulder to shoulder. Though we in Brighton and Hove have not so far been affected by the violence, we are mindful that some of you have family members and friends in other parts of the UK and have been directly impacted. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and with all those suffering the consequences of such senseless acts.

The City of Brighton and Hove has long been a beacon of diversity and inclusion, and we are committed to ensuring that it remains a place where every individual feels safe and valued, regardless of their faith or background. The strength of our community lies in its unity and its unwavering commitment to mutual respect and understanding. We want to assure you that we are not just bystanders. We are actively working to promote peace, foster dialogue, and build bridges between different communities. Our shared goal is to create an environment where everyone can thrive without fear of discrimination or violence.  Together, we can stand firm against hatred and division, and nurture a community built on love, respect, and solidarity.

Please know that we are here for you, ready to support in any way we can. Do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything we can do to assist you or your loved ones during this challenging time.

In solidarity,

The Committee of Brighton and Hove Interfaith Contact Group
